The Client Brief
This young family were keen for a new beginning. Recently moving into a house with raked ceilings and lots of natural light, they felt time was right for a change - and a bit of fun. Mrs R is a huge fan of sunny yellow, and with two little people sharing the space - Miss aged five and Master a rambunctious toddler - a light, bright, fun and functional space was an absolute must.
A sunny yellow tone is the hero colour of this concept, paired with a warm coral and bright turquoise, and anchored by warm wood and neutral tones. A length of vibrant Ikea fabric stretched over a large canvas sets the mood, hanging above the deep, comfy and slightly curved Jardan couch which both Mr & Mrs R stressed was a priority; the couch was a splurge, but the budget was tempered by the fiscally canny Ikea, Freedom and online buys. Storage was another priority, which is addressed by the series of wall units situated around the Television. This wall also features a gently graduating yellow to natural white feature wall - painted in a style which is similar to the softly textural shibori textile dying practice. Although the space is abundant in natural light, the large windows face the street where privacy is a concern - by installing double hung roller blinds with both a white sheer and textural block out, privacy is assured without compromising the outside view and natural light. A couple of eclectic occasional chairs, a kids corner with a pint sized table, bean bag and basket storage, and an array of framed family photos in two display zones rounds out this kid friendly, vibrant and functionally fun concept.
Armed with their mood board, sketches, supplier spreadsheet and client brief, the R family are now ready to embark upon their living room revamp - at their own pace. Apparently the paint work is done and ordering has commenced... Best of luck R family, and thanks so much for the opportunity to work with your gorgeous family!! :)
