So, what do you think of the Pantone colour of 2014? In the press release, it boldly states that Radiant Orchid is "an invitation to innovation... encouraging expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society. An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”
When it comes to colours I'm not really biased as, to me, all colours have their own innate beauty. But I will say, in contrast to the bold and vibrant colour of 2013 (i.e. Emerald) it's successor Radiant Orchid seems to be a softer, fluffier and dare I say, more feminine tone for 2014. In fact, when I look at it I'm somehow reminded of a hug from my Nanna... which really, in essence, is a very good thing. Gentle, calming and safe - and in today's fast paced world, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. It'll be interesting to see how much the "captivating" Radiant Orchid pops up in our design and retail worlds over the next twelve months.
And my tip for 2015? I'm going to get in early punters and predict Pantone will jump across the colour wheel and complete the trifecta. Any one for a sunny and confident Daffodil yellow? ;)
