I placed the finishing touches to our revamped entrance hallway this week - 3 rooms down, 6 to go! It got me thinking about how important these sometimes very small spaces are to our homes. They are not only the first impression you provide to visitors (and at times a dumping ground for school bags and shoes of all kinds), they're also the welcome home you receive every time you walk through the front door. A good hallway should make you feel a little more relaxed, and a little more grateful that you've arrived home.
To me, a successful entrance hallway needs to be uncluttered (but not sterile), have good lighting (a warm toned light at night is is always nice to come home to) and should tell a little story about the home to which it belongs. Keeping this in mind, I've starting a Houzz reference file featuring some entrance hallways - both grand and modest - that I think fit this brief. I've been a fan of Houzz for a while now, and am pretty stoked they've recently launched an Australian specific site - so much locally relevant visual gorgeousness!!
So, with Spring finally here maybe it's time to take a closer look at your first impression to the outside world. Armed with some fresh inspiration, perhaps a entrance mini-makeover will be on the agenda this weekend?
